-Agasteeshwara Temple is the shrine of Lord Shiva located on the banks of river Cauvery at Tirumakudalu Narasipura in the district of Mysore, Karnataka. As per the legends, the deity in the temple is said to have been installed by sage Agastya.
-According to scriptures Maharishi Agasthya went through the Dandakarnya. He was followed by River Kaveri. Here he wanted to offer prayer to Lord Shiva. He ordered Hanuman to get a Shiva Lingam from Kashi for puja. by the time Hanuman could get the Lingam Agasthya made a Lingam out of sand and started to worship it. Hanuman when returned with the Lingam was annoyed, and try to destroy the lingam. The lingam has the imprint of the fist even to this day. The height of the lingam is about 60 feet placed near the river bed of Kaveri and Kapalli.
